Drama, History, Sport / Dir: Tomás Hodan / Czech Republic / 102' / 2022
At the turn of the century in the Giant Mountains set in the northern
border between the Czech Republic and southwestern Poland, ethnic
tensions between the local Czech and German population was often
reflected in sport.
‘The Last Race’ focuses on the historical ski race in 1913, which became a backdrop to dramatic events involving Bohumil Hanč, the most famous Czech cross country ski champion, Václav Vrbata, and Emerich Rath a German athlete. The race tested not only their will to win but also to live.
